Marvel Celebrates 40 Years of Star Wars With a Collection of Variant

Since then, the franchise has made its way into novels, video games, TV series, and of course, comic books. Next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the beloved franchise and Marvel Comics is celebrating in grand fashion with a slew of variant covers for its line of Star Wars books.The variant covers, 48 in all, will depict scenes from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The covers will be drawn by some of the comic book industry’s best talents, including such artists as: Juan Gimenez, Stuart Immonen, Ryan Stegman, Michael Walsh, Mike Mayhew, Marc Laming, David Lopez, and Kevin Wada. Each variant will get new logos and borders that help distinguish them from the official covers. The covers will be individually numbered, something that will surely help collectors keep track of all 48 variants.The variant Star Wars covers are set to launch in January of 2017, which will be the two-year anniversary of Marvel Comics publishing Star Wars books set in the new canon (Marvel used to publish Star Wars comics in the late 70’s and early 80’s). Currently, the comics giant publishes three ongoing Star Wars series: Star Wars, Poe Dameron, and Doctor Aphra. Previous characters that had their own books include: Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Princess Leiah, and C-3PO.
