Home safety group names Prairie Village safest city in Kansas for 2017

first_imgThe National Council for Home Safety and Security’s 2017 list of the safest cities across the country gives Prairie Village the distinction of being the safest city in Kansas.The rankings from the home security trade association use data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Reports as well as census population data to calculate the number of crimes per capita. With just seven reported violent crimes among a population of nearly 22,000 in the most recent data available, Prairie Village’s violent crime per capita rate of .32 is far below the national average of 3.Leawood came in fourth among Kansas cities, with a violent crime per capita rate of .68.Bel Aire and Valley Center, both Wichita suburbs, came in second and third in the rankings.
